Q&A

How do I prepare for the visit?

To reduce the chances that your medical exam will delay your immigration proceeding, make sure to find a civil surgeon approved by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).

Try not to be nervous; remember that you have the right to pursue a waiver in the event of not passing.

What does the doctor look for?

The physician will check for infectious diseases, addiction, and mental or physical conditions that could pose a danger to others or prevent self-care. The exam includes tuberculosis testing, vaccination review, blood and urine tests, and a discussion on your medications, along with any history of drug or alcohol issues.

What is the cost of the immigration medical examination?

We offer two flat fee schedules for your convenience*:

  • $500 - includes:

    • all necessary follow-up visits

    • orders for necessary laboratory testing and imaging to be completed at outside facility

    • prescriptions for necessary immunizations to be completed at a local pharmacy

  • For the patients that need or request the following services - +$250 includes:

    • on-site imaging (if necessary)

    • on-site laboratory testing (lab fees still apply)

    • on-site immunizations (dependent on availability)

*Please note that while the USCIS immigration exams are not covered through medical insurance, we endeavor to get necessary laboratory and immunizations covered, as possible

What are other resources for the immigration physical exam?

Do I need TB Testing for Immigration or additional vaccinations?

We can provide guidance and assistance in obtaining any required vaccinations.

When should I start my immigration physical exam?

You have the flexibility to schedule your appointment up to 60 days before submitting your application packet, with forms being valid for up to two years. Alternatively, you can schedule your examination after filing your initial application and either bring the results to your interview or submit them separately to the USCIS.

What can potentially cause rejections?

Certain factors may affect your green card application's success with the USCIS. Public health risks like untreated or ongoing treatment for gonorrhea, tuberculosis, and syphilis need to be addressed before approval. Drug or alcohol abuse history might necessitate regular testing or evidence of treatment, with active abuse likely leading to application rejection.

Mental health issues that could endanger others, including a history of violence or DUI, could also result in denial. Conditions preventing self-support may hinder your ability to obtain a green card, as the USCIS aims to prevent new residents from relying on welfare.

Our clinic conducts immigration medical exams for those seeking to adjust their status or become permanent U.S. residents. These exams are carried out by civil surgeons following the CDC's Technical Instructions for Medical Examinations of Aliens in the U.S., ensuring compliance with health requirements.

How long will the examination take?

The examination typically takes at least 2 visits, 1 hour each, but this can vary based on individual circumstances.

Can I bring a family member or friend to my appointment?

Yes, you are welcome to bring someone with you for support during your visit.
